Celebrating Women in Construction: Beth Ann Stauffer in the Spotlight
Women in Construction (WIC) Week is a time to highlight the incredible women who bring skill, passion, and expertise to the industry. At SB Thomas, we are proud to recognize the contributions of our team members who help build and manage critical projects. Today, we’re featuring Beth Ann Stauffer, a Project Coordinator whose dedication and problem-solving abilities keep everything on track. Discover her journey and what drives her in the construction field.
How did you get started in a career in construction?
My career in construction started with a call from Sheree Thomas, current President of SB Thomas, asking if I’d be interested in a position assisting the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh in their Modernization and Development Department. Previously, Sheree and I had worked together as Procurement Specialists for Bechtel supporting the US Navy. Performing contract and project management work for Naval equipment provided a solid foundation for performing contract and construction management work for the Housing Authority.
What is your role with SB Thomas?
Currently, I perform the role of Project Coordinator at SB Thomas, where I have worked for the past 17 years. A Project Coordinator has many responsibilities that include, assisting the Construction/Project Manager with project follow, research and administration, Client interface, policy making and training, and management of the company’s Construction Project Management Software.
What do you like about working for SB Thomas (a woman-owned and operated company)?
There are many things to like about working for SB Thomas. First, working for and with Sheree, a friend and colleague with such drive and knowledge has been incredible. It gives a sense of purpose and meaning to my work that I’m not sure I could expect elsewhere. Second, is the flexibility. We have been remote workers since well before it was commonplace. This has allowed me to be a valuable contributor to the organization and raise my daughter without sacrifice to one or the other.
Any advice you would give to a young woman considering a career in construction?
Young Women considering work in the construction field should take every opportunity to knowledge that is offered. If a mentor suggests working on something new or different, I encourage you to try it, research it, learn from it and keep it in your skill-set for future projects.
