The Deborah T. Booker Community Center is located in Allegheny County Housing Authority’s Park Sheldon community in Natrona Heights, PA. The project broke ground on April 9th, 2010 and was completed without issue or delay on December 17th, 2010.

The building is 8,800 square feet in size and contains a full size gymnasium, various office and conference rooms, a lounge area, a demonstration kitchen, and a computer lab.

The building is LEED Certified and implements many GREEN features to help reduce the long-term operating costs of the facility. These GREEN features include energy efficient light fixtures and occupancy sensors, water saving plumbing fixtures, a standing metal “cool” roof that reflects solar radiation, and two rain gardens that will be sustained by rainwater shed from the roofing system. The building was designed to use 30% less water and 14% less energy than other similar facilities.

SB Thomas & Associates, Inc. (SBTA) provided construction management services on this project as a WBE sub-consultant to Turner Construction. In this capacity, SBTA conducted all of the weekly job meetings and prepared the meeting minutes, tracked and logged RFI and submittals for all 4-prime contractors, reviewed and approved contractor payment applications, monitored the construction schedule, reviewed change orders and provided recommendations to the Owner, and ensured all required documents were complete.
