Project Overview:

Under our on-call contract with Allegheny County Department of Public Works, SB Thomas provided CM/CI services on the construction of the pedestrian and bike lane along Springhill Road in Natrona Heights. In addition to funding and oversight by Allegheny County, the project also included funding from PennDOT, was designed to PennDOT specifications and standards, and had PennDOT oversight involvement. The construction included reducing the roadway from 4 lanes down to 2 lanes in some sections, institution of a truck climbing lane, driveway adjustments, installation of the shared use (ped/bike) path, construction of ADA curb ramps, and paving of the entire roadway.

Project Role:

SB Thomas & Associates provided CM/CI services for ACDPW on this pedestrian & bike lane project. We staffed the project with a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor-1 (TCIS-1) and Transportation Construction Inspector-2 who were responsible to conduct daily on-site inspections, complete daily inspection reports, provide photo documentation, documenting quantities of work completed, monitor the contractor’s progress, reviewing contractor monthly pay estimates, tracking submittals and RFI, reviewing material certifications and sources of supply, attending job meetings and preparing the minutes, and working in PennDOT’s PPCC construction management system, among other inspector functions.
